Pioneer DJ - Mixer Overview

Gearbase product details : Pioneer DJ DJM-2000

Pioneer's latest addition to their mixers lineup is the DJM-2000, a new digital powerstation that perfectly matches the styling set by the CDJ-2000 and CDJ-900. The DJM-2000 is a 4 channel audio mixer with effects and filters and features a touch screen area like on the SVM-1000. The big difference is that the screen on the DJM-2000 is Multi-Touch. This means that for some effects you can use two fingers to control the effects.

There are a total of 6 individual effect processors which make the total number of possible combination endless. The DJM-2000 is an intuitive layout that feels very natural for DJs that are used to control the DJM-800 or it's predecessors. As there are a number of big international DJs that helped developing the mixer at various stages, the DJM-2000 is the new ultimate club mixer made by Pioneer.

The DJM-2000 approaches mxing in a new way, Pioneers 10 year experience helped developing this top end mixer. This mixer comines the strengths of a true digital mixing console with the effect possibilities of the EFX-1000. Due to the Touch Screen the controls of the effects is much easier than on any external effects processor.

The DJM-2000 is currently the only mixer that offers the ability to connect (with netwerk cables) up to 4 CDJ-2000's (or CDJ-900's) and 2 computers with Rekordbox. There is no more need for a LAN switch to connect more than 2 of the new generation CDJs to eachother. With this link activated on all decks and computers all music libraries are shared and can be approached by all decks.

Built in the DJM-2000 is a powerfull 24 bits soundcard that offers 3 possible configurations, but also features HID output to complement the new CDJs, allowing for a true digital connection to your virtual mixing software of choise.

Pioneer DJM-800 Channel EQ and Mic Input

Input Selector

As with any DJ Mixer there is a selector on top of each Channel controll to select with input source your are going to use for that channel. There are 4 Channels and each channel has 3 possible inputs : CD/Digital, Phono or Line and USB. The complete list is above in Specifications.

The USB Inputs can be used to playback audio from a computer with DJ software running on it.

More info about the USB INPUTS soon.

3-band Channel Equalizer

The DJM-2000 has a big improvement on the Equalizers when compared to the DJM-800. For a complete list of frequencies check Specifications.

The Equalizers work at the same frequencies and have the same cut-off filters so they sound equal. You can however also activate the Isolator Mode for the EQ. This enables the cut-off level to go from -26dB to -infinit (=total kill).

Mic with EQ and Talkover

The balanced Microphone input features a XLR/Jack-type combination socket that fits both Jack and XLR type connectors.

There is a 2 way equalizer to set adjust the sound of the input. The Talkover function can beactivated manually with the switch. You can also set it to Auto so it reduced the sound level of the Master with around 9dB so the voice is better hearable.

INST FX

The DJM-2000 is equiped with 6 Instinctive Instantly available filters. There is a master Parameter setting rotary located below the red illuminated buttons to control the sound of the FX.

Each channel has a level control to adjust the amount of filter that is applied to that channel. To be real precise the Filter control controls dry/wet for the INST FX for that channel.

The big change when comparing this FX section with that of the DJM-800 is that the Filter controls for each channel start at 0 (min) position and do not have a center click.

INST FX Ffilters
Bullet Arrow Noise (adds noise)
Bullet Arrow JET (adds flanging effect)
Bullet Arrow ZIP (key alteration)
Bullet Arrow Crush (Crushes and compresses)
Bullet Arrow LPF (Low Pass Filter)
Bullet Arrow HPF (High Pass Filter)

More info about the INST FX soon.

MIDI

There is a switch so start the MIDI output of the mixer. You can toggle on/off whenever you need the MIDI functionality.

Channel EQ Curve

This adjust weather the Channel EQs work as Equalizer (up to -26dB) or as Isolator (-infinit)

Channel Cross Fader Curve

You can also set the curves of the Channel Faders and the Crossfader to adjust the mixers handling to your liking. There are 2 options for the Faders : Lineair or logarythmical. The Cross Fader has 3 options from tight in the corner to smooth crossfade in the center. The middle option is inbetween keeping a constant level at center position.

CLICK TO ENLARGE Frequency Mix functionTouch Screen Controls

At a central postion on the deck, the 2-way 5.8'' multi touch screen can be set in 2 modes : Frequency Mix (like in the image), Sidechain Mix (advanced effects) and MIDI (control ie. Ableton, Traktor or other DJ Software).

Frequency Mix
The Frequency Mix mode offers a 7-band Cross Fader, each slider on a higher frequency, much like a multiband eq with crossfaders. The virtual crossfaders can be slided by dragging them over the screen or by tapping the arrows next to each slider. As the screens offers multi touch you can also drag 2 sliders atthe same time.

Sidechain Mix
This could also be called Effect Section as this is where you control the parameters of the selected effects.

MIDI
Gives you a visual display of al the mapped MIDI channels and offers you virtual buttons you can map to software on your computer (connected via RJ-45 Network cable)

More info about the SIDECHAIN MIX & MIDI soon.

Effect ProcessorCLICK TO ENLARGE

In effect the DJM2000 has a built in EFX-1000. When you take a closer look at the controlls of the EFX section you'll notice all the simularities. You select the channel for the effects by the red push buttons on top of the Effects. Below that you can press any of the yellow effect selection buttons to select the eeffect of your liking.

With the Effect Frequency knobs you control the frequencies where the Effect Processor should be applied. You could make settings so only the high frequencies (snare/hi-hat percussion) are effected (with a delay for example)

The Beat Buttons (1/2, 1/2, etc) make it easy to switch from one measure (1/4) to another (1/1) without activating the measures in between.

The Timing and the Level/Depth knob do just what you would ecspect that it would do. Between the EFX section and the Touch Screen is a small display that displays the timing information that the EFX section uses to time the effects.

All effects will be explained in detail soon

And what will be the price of this one?
  Flag Lead wrote on 10-03-2010 @ 17:52
That's in the press release : 1.999,- euro including VAT

I'm wondering how the mixer will work with rekordbox. The CDJ-900 doesn't work with laptops, but with a usb device with playlists and tracks from rekordbox.
  Flag Dolivieira wrote on 12-03-2010 @ 08:42

The History Playlist is stored at each performance (on a supporting CDJ configuration). Each Playlist can be renamed and transferred in the future to a USB Device for re-use of it. You can add a Playlist by right clicking the Playlist folder.

Winston wrote on 21-03-2010 @ 17:57

  Flag Camino wrote on 10-05-2010 @ 12:51
  Flag Berbo wrote on 18-05-2010 @ 17:24
had je niet genoeg aan 6 line aansluitmogelijkheden?
  Flag romeode wrote on 25-06-2010 @ 22:50
  Flag Mitchell2 wrote on 04-07-2010 @ 20:19
  Flag Dolivieira wrote on 10-07-2010 @ 12:52

( EDIT ) Na 9,5 week eindelijk binnen gekregen.
  Flag JohnyRumble wrote on 01-10-2010 @ 13:39

Grtz Johny

Toch, afgelopen week/ vandaag nog wat reviews zitten kijken van deze mixer;

This mixer blow everything you put infront it right out of the water!

This incl DJM 800 / 900 / 1000 (exept for soundquality), but its aim is for production and remixing, but damn what a good and fun mixer!

Cheers

/Martin
