digital set

This is the set how I used it for the 6th mix on Sonic Walker. Since I only use digital music from internet netlabels, there is no need for a traditional turntable or a CD-player. The 15" PowerBook and the DAT recorder on the right side are only used for recording the mix.

The Finger Trigger controller handles the cueing, looping and syncronizing (4 decks with each 4 buttons) and deck volume (the 4 faders on the left). The UC-33 controls per deck the 4 band EQ and effects, as well as master speed. The mouse is only used to select the next track and assign it to a deck.

Apple PowerBook 17

i HATE pc-dj's. for you... i will make an exception for you Happy, laughing nice booth... very pro!

It's not a PC, it's a Mac! I have my old analog technics and mixer but there is no reason to use them. I could invest a lot of money in DJ CD-players (as some might remember, I wanted to get those new Denon DN-S3500) and burn all the music to CD but I don't think it would make the result any better.

do you have any problems with latency using a digital setup?
Flag SonicWalker wrote on 11-03-2006 12:32
You probably would if you want to include external sources but since all 4 decks are digital you don't have the problem. The Audiophile FW has a very low latency in general.  There is no disturbing delay when I use the controllers, it just feels like a real device.

I admire PC DJ's very much, because I am lousy at DJing with the PC (or Mac). And who cares the it does not look as cool as playing with an SL or CDJ. It's the result that counts, so as long as the mix is OK it doesn't matter how you do it (just my 2 cents).

leuke booth:P hoe bevalt die Syrincs M3-220??
Flag SonicWalker wrote on 11-03-2006 16:04
I think the Syrincs M3-220 are great for a computer based production studio, where you place both satellite speakers on your desk next to the monitor directly in front of you and that's how I usualy use them. For DJing I would prefer regular monitor speakers without a separate subwoofer. But in general it is a good idea to have more than one monitor system.
The 'booth' on the image is only the temporary setup for the specific mix. Setting it up like that just takes a few minutes and of course I use the PowerBooks daily for other things than DJing. In the future I want to create a permanent booth, which will then also include the turntables, mixer etc. as well as various pieces of music equipment.

I have used Virtual DJ and use it now and then is the way you DJ sumthing like how i wood use Virtual DJ or is it totlly defrent ?

Flag SonicWalker wrote on 25-03-2006 14:26
@Sean1210
I don't know Virtual DJ but DJ l’embrouille who released 2 mixes on my netlabel is using it together with the Hercule DJ Console.
Native Instruments has a fully functional demo of Traktor available for download, so you can try it out and compare. Most important to me are the external controllers. I like to have knobs and faders. The ones I have been using are ok but it could be better. I will probably order the Live and Traktor controllers from Faderfox soon. Something like Finalscratch is also interesting but the price is just too high to get a spinning platter control. A very nice controler for the old Traktor version is Kontrol DJ, which can also be used with Virtual DJ.
