The Yamaha NS-10 is a studio reference speaker. Not meaning it is the best sounding speaker, but it was by far the most used studio monitor of it's days. According to Yamaha they discontiued this model because they couldn't get the wood pulp needed to create the conus of the speaker. Even today this speaker is still used, even as it's discontinued years ago (estimated somewhere around 2000).

The NS10 started it's life as a hifi speaker but didn't do so well, those consumer models we're shipped as seen in this image: including a fabriq front panel. The later NS-10M models (M = monitor) didn't have the front as it influences the sound.

The Yamaha NS10M professional near field studio monitor features a full, flat response from 60 Hz to 20 kHz. It has an exceptionally tight and clean reproduction in an on console studio speaker. This compact, high performance 2 way speaker is specifically designed for professional near field monitor applications. The NS10M features a unique sheet formed white cone 18 cm woofer and a 3.5 cm soft dome tweeter to achieve the high end response required in professional applications.
