Hello everybody out there,

I have a question refering to the theme of the mp3 quality. Some time ago I have ripped a lot of my cds to mp3s without lokking on the bitrate of them...Finally most of my songs are at a rate of 128 kbps.

See, the question is if I can take out this quality into night clubs or if the audience will recognize the quality difference easily. The problem i see is that while putting your music through a sound system of 15000 watts music alsways sounds a bit different than as if you are listening to it at home.

It would be really great if some could tell me his or her honest opnion...cause it would save me lots of hours...Cry

--> if the quality used should not be usable for djs why does e.i. musicload offer most of their tracks at a bit rate of 128 kpbs ?Cry

Would be great if you could answer my question in german or english cause I#m not used to other langues...Cry

many thx             ...and pump up the volume...

What do you think about bit rate of mp3s ??

The quality that yout have to use as a pro DJ is: 320 or highger! Or WAV!

The rest is onacceptable, That's my opinion

I agree on thatWinking my eye you can also buy your cd's in a store then you don't have that problem, the quality is good

well ok I'm yet not a pro dj and the stress does not lie on the quality you can get on musicload but on the fact that I want to go digital and try not to pull the cds wth me around but have them on my hard drive where they are now with the mentioned bit rate of 128...

For so long I have only played in my hometown which is not that big and the disco is quiet ok...
So I just asked myself if I can do the job there with my present music on my hard drive...

Wav is best I agree on thatbut really needed in my useConfusedCry

yeah it's your own choise, but think about, what you have now, you have it for later, You want to go digital, then it's smart if you get your mp3 at good quality, else you have to get everything new when you start spinning at bigger clubs

The bit rate of a high quality MP3 file is 320 KBPS. Or otherwise you need WAV files for an even higher quality. WAV files are also larger than MP3's.

It really depends on the complexity of the songs. 128 kbps can become a problem for complex sounds and than a user can notice the audio quality. However in a club there is to much noise most of the time to notice this. But you can test it yourself. Playback the original and the Mp3 on a decent headphone and soundcard and you should hear the difference. if not, the quality of the songs is ok for in a club.
Tough I still recommand re-ripping you're cd's to an Lossless audio format like FLAC, APE or Lossless WMA.
See wikipedia for more information on lossless.

No Way !

I've done a test with a. audio CD of a certain track and compared it is a club with 320, 192 and 128 kbps...

After this test, I only burn real audio CD's to play with and 320 kbps as compression for private use/iPOd etc. Everything less than 320 kbps is noticable in a club environment.

Don'T Use MP3 <320kbps in a club or event !!!

I think it also has a lot to do with the software used for the compression. It certainly makes a difference. I can also remember a test where they had a single song at 3 different bit-rates and the original on cd. The had four audiophiles (people who have high demands for audio quality) listen to all the tracks and they had to make a list of wath sounded best. None of the testsubjects had the right list and only one had the original cd as the best souding (but the 128kbs song as the second best sounding). 1 or 2 had the 128kbs song as the best sounding. All this was tested on expensive reference systems...

It is realy interesting reading the different opnions in this thread.....I think it is really a theme that should be discussed...

I have thought about new technologies a lot because i play with the thought ob buying a cdj 400 by pioneer. I like the combination of two technologies on this unit. On the one hand I cannot imagine just to work with music placed on my harddrives...even thogh I have tried it out wih my cortex unit!! But! On the other hand cds give you the real dj feeling even like vinyl. That is the reason why I could imagine that a combination of both would be the best (when talking about cds I mean cds bought in a store as in the good old times Cry).

...In the end it is hard to find all the different remixxes of a song on compilations or maxi cds which are think are over priced mostly.
the great number of these remixes can be fuond easily in the internet and in some cases only there...but then we still have the problem with the sound quality which is often at 128 kbps...maybe a thing we have to live with...like "Cyspoz" said before it depends on the complexity of the songs ... I have recognized this in the last days...

thx

But it's hard to guess the complexity of a song.

in my room I hear a little difference between 128kbs and 320kbs. the quality of a cd that I bougth in a store is still the best I think! but I don't now how it's like in a club or an event (yetCry).
