it probably has something to do with apple's digital rights management system.
I guess best thing you can do is look at the specs of your cdj to see what kind of iPods are supported Happy, laughing

Thanks Gey , in the specs of the CDJ anythings say what kind of Ipods are supported, that's the problem but in their demonstration Pionner play the CDJ with an Ipod but not the most recently so....
Excuse me but I don't understand at ll what's means in" with apple's digital rights management system" ...what do you say throught thisConfused tks so much

Ok I think what you want to say throught the apple's digital rights management system but I don't think it's the problem here , thanks you very much also...

Lead and i tested it ,. Ipod Touch series does not work with the cdj-400..
the Digital Interface is different. (BUT apple might change this!!)
the Ipod Classic's (30, 60, 80, 160 Gigs) Should work without any problems..

Hi Paco,

I'm not aware that new iPod's and old iPods are different. Pioneer never told that the CDJ-400 is compatible, it's compatible with external USB storage devices. And as the iPod behaves like an external storage device it can be 'read' and used by the CDJ.

The digital management system should not change any of the functinaloity as it is only meant to stop people from making digital copies of the tracks stored on the iPod.

What iPod have you tried it with ??

Isn't there an option in Itunes if you want to use your Ipod as an external drive? Or am I confusing it with something else?

My gues sis that the digital interface in all new iPods launched in september 2007 (including iPod Classic, iPod touch) have a new protection system so that the music can't be accessed directely.

with older model you could easily browse music on an iPod wen accessed like an external storage device, but I guess that's not possible anymore so the pioneer cant read the music either.

I used to have an iPod classic 80GB but sold it when I got my iPhone
both iPod touch and iPhone house the same firmware and with these models it's impossible to behave like an external storage device.

the classics can be accessed as external device but i gues sthe music files are well hidden.

you could try adding song to your iPod when using in hard drive mode.
so manually copying songs to your iPod as if it was a hard drive.

if the CDJ can read these songs it's clear that apple has changed their software to disable direct readout of music files.

I try do drop MP3 files in the Ipod in HD mode but it doens't work so... il think that cause by the fact that the CDJ 400 don't read the USB HD without external alim... for example a direct USB driver don't work... Pioneer made a great CDj with it but it dosen't work as i hope....please ...

Just use an external USB Hard Disc drive and this will solve your issues. Pioneer never said their CDJ's are iPod compatible. I just found out that it worked with mine (and millions of others that have the same generation iPod).

The iPod needs itunes to put tracks on your iPod so fill the iPod with itunes. I wll try to get a hold on some more recent iPods to test though...

i think your ipod disk function is disabled.
you can enable it in your ipod options screen in itunes
if this don't works
maby you can put your ipod in diskmode

1. make shure your ipod is charged
2. put your ipod on hold and put your ipod off hold
3. press the menu en select for about 6 seconds, until the apple logo appearce
4. when apple logo appearce press select and play/pause button, till 'disk mode' screen comes on.

i think this should work
your computer will now reconize your ipod as a normal harddrive.

Make sure that your ipod is formatted in a windows mode nd not a macintosh mode. Thats the only way the 400 can read it. I have an 80 gb video ipod and it works fine on my 400, it jsut takes some tim efor it to load the 10000 songs...

hey guys,

JUST got the 400s.
I get the error with a the latest gen ipod nano.
it's windows formatted and disk mode doesnt seem to help it much either.
A firmware update could fix this probably.
V1.20 is the latest correct?

apart from that the 400s are a fkn SICK toy. great feel. light. fast and accurate.
bye bye 200s :P

I think youre problem is, your CDJ can not read your IPOD folding. If you turn on, show hide folders you see theres more on your ipod. To get music worked with your cdj:

+ Select in i-tunes, show as external drive.

+ Open the drive with windows explorer

+ make an new folder, called music

+ ut your music in that folder for your cdj

+ now open it as an external harddrive i your cdj400

i think there's no probelm anymore
