So i recently was asked to open for a halloween party, I'm going on for one hour and knew my roll coming into this. Set the tone, take it easy, and keep it slower. Now I told the booking agent that I needed to be put in contact with the headliner to discuss what he wanted. Well nothing came of it and I just figured, since it's a party, not a club, then I should play kinda what I wanted, yet still slower. I just got the idea from the promoter and the headliner that they didn't care. Now, it's two days before the party and all of a sudden I hear the headliner wants a track list of my ideas. So I send it to him and he completely bashes my choices and directs me to music that isn't me OR my style at all and I'm basically left with coming up with an hours worth of opening tracks.

So my question to you all is.....
I'm playing electro/progressive house, should I start out with more melodic tracks, key mixed, mild tracks?
And is it completely out of line to throw in some good drivin basslines and beat work? I basically am just a little afraid I'm going to piss off the man of the show and acquire an enemy. And thats not what I want to do. So please help, and input will benefit. Thanks

Why you affraid of the headliner? Everyone has its own style, so u shouldnt be worried. Cause its seems to me its not a party that is directly stuck on one music-style.

Tell me, whats the headliners choice of music?

I'm not afraid of him, I'm just a little taken back because it's all last minute. But his style is electro/progressive house. More chords and melodies in key mixed and progressive. Not so much hard beats.

My style is more hard hitting electro with long build ups and hard drops

than try to start a little easy, with the melodic tracks, and build it up from there and finish with your own style.
it's common dj's build up their set, just try to don't make it to hard.
