Hey guys,

Just needing some advice from some experienced non-bias people, which i have been having trouble getting. I am new to the Dj game, have been doing some push button, cd work for about 5 months, and finally have enough to invest in a set up for myself. I have had my mind set on a set of Digital 1200's but am now not so sure after reading some of your reviews. This will be my first set, so i dont have much experience, and i dont know how to really test out the capabilities of each item.
Firstly to start out, would you recommend going digital straight up, or would i benefit more, from learning on vinyl first (Just that i have a huge cd collection and not alot of cash to play with to get a vinyl collection going)
what set up (decks, mixer) would you recommend for both digital and vinyl and why.
I play alot of hip/hop and house, and want to be able to have much more control over the music, as opposed to my current spot.
I also would like to know the capabilities of the denon S5000 in comparison to the 1200, i.e. how user friendly it is, which is easier to learn on

Thanks guys would really appreciate some help

What do you think about CD or Vinyl ??

SL-DZ would not be my choice Winking my eye I have enough with the CDJ-1000mk2's.

It looks nice, but it's hard to work with. I prefer Digital mixing with CDs over tha analogue way. With CD you've got more precision, accuracy en possibilities.

DN-S5000 is a machine you got to learn to work with. It hold lots of features but most are hidden behind a second or third feature of a button. It's hard to get a hold of the DN-S5000, but once you learned to work with it there are lots and lots of possibilities to do.
Let the BASS be louder

i heard a Hip-Hop DJ saying (@ Konijn Music in Eindhoven) that THE cd-TT for him was the CDX, when i went out to test the digital TT's even i heard the SLDZ crying while the CDX/ CDJ's/ Denons where singing.

i think the best option for you would be a CDX, just because i hear from all hip-hop freaks thats IT... and in my opinion it works good and the quility is a bit less then the CDJ's but i don't think a lot ppl wil notice

go try them all out, do some backspins and scratches (with key lock on/off) on different machines... its a lot of money so better think twice then buy the wrong gear

Good Luck!

Thanks guys,

Yeh i have pretty much ruled out the technics, and im tossing up between, 1000mk2s, and s5000, only prob is i dont know many places near where i live i can test them out, and even doing so i havent really used a turntable before so i wouldnt know how to test it out,

if anyone knows somewhere in brisbane, australia i can test out different dj gear let me know.

otherwise what are the key features i should be looking for as a beginner

u should go for the cdjs the pitch is apparently more accuate compared to the denons. if you are looking for a good mixer make sure it has a send and return function on it. that way in the future u have the chance to expand on wot u have got. in my experience its beta to buy the best when u start out.
