I own a DJM-800 and two CDJ-800 MK3's. I purchased monster cable RCA's to better my quality with my previous setup. So with the new mixer and decks with digital in-s and out-s..... I figured I would get a pair of digital cables for a better quality sound..... only problem is, the monster digital coaxial cables put out a significant lower frequency dB then the monster RCA's. As far as quality goes....Confused I can't relly tell. I do know that the RCA's are much louder and seemingly the same quality as the digitals..... CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP?

Do you have CDJ-800mk2's or CDJ-1000MK3?

Digital should sound much clearer and should not be at a lower volume.

What if you use the same cable, fist for analogue and than for digital ?

and what exacly do you mean with 'significant lower fequency dB' ?? Is the overall level lower or do you miss certain frequencies in the audio ?

You won't be able to hear the difference in sound quality if don't have a complete audiophile set up (amp and speakers) in a special listening environment, as the DJM-800 is already superb with analogue sound.

I suppose you selected the digital/cd input selector switch on the back of the mixer to digital? Then I'm puzzled. Just check if the plug is all the way inserted in the jack on both sides.

My mistake, I have 800 Mk2's.

But what i did was switch the cd/input selector to digital, hooked up the monster digitals and played a song. Then went back to analog (monsters) and played the same song at the same volume settings. The analog was much louder at all the same levels.

So maybe the 800 does have superb analog sound??

I even tried applying both cables analog and digital to two channels and still the analog was significantly louder. As far as quality goes, I can't tell. Probably because it's all plugged into a PA system.

(overall level is lower) on digital

Is it the cables?
Or am I just stupid?

Don't mind the quality then. Just use the analog RCA for the time being. Because it seems to be something weird.

But you forgot to mention that you switched the cd/digital input back to the cd setting.

And really check if the cables are firmly connected on both ends.

I suppose you have 2 (two) digital coaxial cables and that both have the same volume levels on different channels of the mixer?

correct i do have two dig coax cables, both with the same levels. And i did remember to switch the cd/digital input back, with firm connections.

I don't think it's the cables, because these are the second pair i've purchased.
And I don't know enough to determine if it's the mixer or cd players.

For now, RCA it is.

The leverl curve of the gain is not equal for digital and analogue inputs. At a low gain the analogue input is higher, at a higher gain (5-past) the digital gain is higher.

There is nothing to worry about and I would hook your CDJ's up digitally to gain max sound quality (allthough the analogue output is allready better than most other mixers).
This will not make your signal to distort as long as you keep out of the red.
