In anoher thread I've posted e secrets of the CDJ-800 by showing it's inner body
Here are the same pictures but now revealing you all mysteries of the Pioneer CDJ-1000MK2 :

And now we're talking about the CDJ-1000MKII, I also tried out a mod suggested by jordy in This Forum thread.

'What if I want the metal DVJ-X1 Jog Plate on my CDJ-1000MK2 ?'

This is actually a fine idea, but a little more complex than it looks like. I can never suggest anybody to do this. First of all it is all at your own risk :

You will definitly void all waranties by opening the CDJ yourself !

The Jog Wheel is one of the most complex parts of the CDJ and exist (roughly) out of 60 parts and 27 screws, not counting the unit that gives you the 'feel' and the display. Each part must go back just as you take it out because to reach the Jog Plate you have to disassemble almost the complete Jog....

I replaced 3 part of the CDJ-1000MK2 with new ones. The Jog Plate is sticked to the Jog and I assume this will be very hard to completely remove all glue. The surface must be completely flat to stick the DVJ Jog Plate to it.

Typically a case of 'just to be sure' :D

To get access to the Touch Sensitive section most of the Jog Wheel had to be removed and dissassembled. This is a very precise job and shouldn't be done in a rush.

I've put the parts in a reasonable setup to make a neat picture, look at the difference between the original Jog Plate (bottom right) and the new one (top left). It looks simple this way, but it's a surprisingly clever principle... but all solutions seem simple, once known

After an endless session of unscrewing all parts, the Jog Wheel could be replaced. And all screws and parts can be assembled again. The final result is very , I love the metal feel of the DVJ's Jogwheel.

Just to compare, this is a picture of an original CDJ1000, it's positioned right beside the modified one to make sure both players are illuminated by the same lights.

hey lead,

i'm definitely impressed with that modification!

was opening up my mk2 (it's no longer under warranty) and was wondering...

in order to access the jog wheel assembly, you had to remove that top section of circuitry above the jog wheel, right?

also, after modifying with the dvj platter, is the sensitivity or feel any different?

thanks!
Lead    posted on 02-05-2005 08:46
Nope, you can leave the circuitry in place, the Jog Section is hold to it's place by a few screws.

BUT BE CAREFULL, it's quit easy to make a mistake so you can damage your jogwheel quit easy.

the Jogwheel does not feel or handle any different than the standard Jogwheel.

thanks lead,

i really appreciate the tips!  could you elaborate a little what to be careful about?

when i opened up the casing, i saw that there were 4 screws holding the underside of the jogwheel; so there's room to lift out the wheel and slide it from beneath the circuitry?
Lead    posted on 02-05-2005 20:06
Don't mess it up !!!

And the jogwheel section is a complete unit that you can dissassemble on it's own.

And the story continues. I've just made another mod to my CDJ-1000MK2. I will update the DJ-Topic with these modifications at a later time (perhaps this weekend), but I wanted to show you the picture as soon as possible Winking my eye

Find the mod yourself, those that don't see don't miss anything. Those that do see it.... I bet you like it :D

Just to make some things really clear before people start the rumours. The image above is just my CDJ-1000mk2 with 2 modifications : I've mounted the  touch sensitive plate from the DVJ-X1 on top of the jogwheel. Also the PLAY button now has the blue lights from the DVJ-X1....

It's a modded CDJ-1000MK2... nothing else !

Wooow ! Fabulous !

Is this possible to try this tip on a CDJ800 ?
Basrose    posted on 15-09-2005 19:03
can you bould some neon into the cdj-1000? at the border of the jogweel there is some space where light can come trough... Just an id cuz i like that verry much of the 200
jordy    posted on 15-09-2005 19:41
oh ik had mijn mond moeten houden :P
Lead    posted on 16-09-2005 02:20
The CDJ-200 is no neon, there are a few LED's behing a plastic trim. That is something that is much more difficult to to do... it also involves drilling hples in the CDJ and that's a little to far Winking my eye

But perhaps when I take a closer look at the components used on the CDJ-200....
