Hi ppl im obvouisly new here my names vip im 18 live in south east london currently working in a dj shop and studying computer engineering oh year and clubbing on weekends.

Anyway i love music and ive always been amazed by cd decks, and since i was little always wanted a set to mix on. it wasnt till a few months back when i starting working for a dj shop that my urge grew bigger to get a pair of cd decks and learn how to play my brothers a vinyl dj and puts out some great beats and hes always said cds decks are uselss well i think its time to prove him wrong.

Please can you give me a couple of tips on what equipment to go for as a starter i was thinking the pioneer -cmx 3000 or the cdj 200 and the djm 400 mixer any tips would be great thanx. i can get the cmx and djm for £800 and the cdj's and djm for £900.

thanx

Nice intro VIp. Welcome at DJResource. Ofcourse a DJM-400 with two CDJ-200 would be nice to start with. But the innovative developments of DJ gear are shifted into a higher gear. How do you think about incorporating a laptop or PC, with twoa CDJ-200 as controllers?

for a starter kit ...
it depends on how match money you would like to spend..Winking my eye
and alsow with what you want to make youre music -> only turntables, or turntables and cd players, or only cd players

technics has really nice turntables: check

Hi VIP, welcome here @ DJResource.

I bet you will gonna prove to your brother that playing with CD's kicks ars Winking my eye

I would go for the CDJ's:
  • newer design and more uptodate electronics
  • MP3 possibility, not much for in clubs but @ home this is nice
  • easier to control deck on a table than in a 19" rack
  • you probably never going to use the auto mix feature of the CMX
  • CDJ's doesn't have the Hot Cue's of the CMX but has a much better loop functionality.
Also read CDJ-200 and CMX-3000

Welcome, I'd definitely go for the tabletops, as you work in a shop you can easily test both out, and take my word for it (i've owned both); tabletop is MUCH nicer to work on than a twin deck such as the CMX. Personally, the DJM400 wouldn't be my choice in that price range, but i'd rather go for the new Synq-SMX2 as you are doubling up on a lot of features with a CDJ200/DJM400 combo. Plus, the synq allows for future expansion as well whilst the DJM does not. If you've got a tiny bit more money to spend (say 100 quid above your budget), take a look at the Allen&Heath Xone:32, great mixer with filter, amazing faders, and in the UK A&H is the brand you will come across in clubs more often than Pioneer. Good luck, and welcome again
