Hey !

I have been using vinyl since i started Djing but have just invested in some MK3's so i can make use of my massive Mp3 collection which was being neglected. The only problem is most of these Mp3's are 128kb - 192kbs.

Now i have used 128kbs in audio format cds in a club before and the sound was passable. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the minimum bitrate i should use is, when using data cds of mp3's on the CDJ1000mk3.

I know aim to use between 256 and 320kbs, but is 192 acceptable?

Any help would be appreciated, or refering me to another post where the question has been answered

Interesting thread. For me 192 is acceptable. I also like to know how others prepare their mp3's, before the're burned on cd.
What I do now, is bringing all my files to the same volume level with mp3gain. I also found out my CDJ800mkII, don't want to search fast with mp3's, that are encoded in VBR.
So I only use mp3' in CBR with a minimum of 192kbps.

Most of the time when i download them they are VBR, so i always convert them to CBR 320 Kbs. But if they are already CBR, they have to be at least 192 Kbs...

CBR 192 sounds exactly the same as CBR 320 on a big club speaker setup. Those speakers aren' meant to play good, detailled music, but are meant to go loud, and live long. Sometimes even CBR 128 is possible. Just make sure you don't use VBR, it simply is a fucked up format ^^
It reduces audio quality, while you only save about half a MB of space.

and how do i convert?

can i increase the bitrate during conversion? or does it already have to be a high bitrate

VBR = variable bit rate
CBR = constant bit rate

It's almost impossible to hear a difference between these two formats but it can make a differnece for a cd player, but your's supports vbr so it doesn't matter!
And if you want to convert;  look on google for a program called dbAmp music converter

(It won't increase the music quality, but when you pick 320 Kbs you'll be sure that it wont decrease the quality)
