Good evening,

Recently I decided that I needed a set of KRK RP 6 G2. My questin however is, how to connect them to my computer (I will be using them for producing purposes).

I heard from a friend of mine that you could put an external soundcard between them and your computer, e.g. a M-Audio Fasttrack. I don't really want to spend 130 euro's for a little box just to control the volume.

I would like to be able to control the volume easily (not via Windows itself).

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

What do you think about Connectie KRK PC ??

The cheapest option is to buy a passive volume knob. One most commonly used is the Level Pilot by TC Electronics.

you will probably need a 2,5' stereo plug to cinch and a cinch to XLR to hook up your PC to your volume knob and 2 XLR-XLR cables to connect your speakers.

however if you're seriously about starting to produce I can highly recommend to use an external sound card. It does not only help to improve the sound quality but it acts as an external sound processor to lower the load on your CPU when using VST and other audio creating plug-in's.

Thanks for your reply,

Do you reckon that a M-Audio Fasttrack is a good purchase? M-Audio-fast-track-mkii-usb-audio-interface

Or should I get one of these volume contollers:

M-Audio isn't too bad for the money, but it's definitely not the best quality. Firstly you should look into whether you want a FireWire or USB audio interface. I personally prefer FireWire, but some people are fine with USB. Then you can start looking into different brands of iterfaces. I personally like Edirol, the quality of their sound cards is, to me, simply outstanding.

Would it be possible to connect the KRK's with the M-Audio-fast-track-mkii-usb-audio-interface

And just use it as a volume controller?

first of all, links to webshops are not allowed on drj, so you better rmove them before you get in any trouble with the admins.

Ah thanks, I removed them Happy, laughing.

I just want to control the volume externally (no firewire) without too much quality loss...

If you don't bother changing the volume from your computer, why not buy a mini jack to XLR?
