Dawn of a new species
EXCLUSIVE! James Zabiela hints at what you can expect next from Pioneer.

Watch the dawn of a new species

Up until now the kind of option of deejaying is, you write all your music out on a post-it note and burn a cd and after a while it gets kind of tedious. The other option ofcourse is to play of DVS, if you want to stick with the traditional deejaying method, so you can use your laptop and do it like that.

But I'm not really a massive fan of like staring at the laptop screen so much. So, what I'd still use my laptop in my sets for effects and things like that. It's really great to know, be able to just look at the player and go through my tracks on that and not have to burn those to cd's or have to stare at the laptop screen.

So it's kind of bringing the deejay back towards the crowd a little bit and putting the element of traditional deejaying and the performance of it all.

Up to date really with modern techology its a, I think it's a nice mix of the two things and yeah it's kind of super convenient and also you know, pretty advanced.

I really can't wait to get it stuck in.

Dawn of a new species #2

EXCLUSIVE! Armin van Buuren hints at what you can expect next from Pioneer.

Watch the dawn of a new species . . .

Hey what's up! I'm Armin van Buuren. As you guys know I've switched from vinyl to cd and now the next revolution is here. The new players are absolutely fantastic.

This is really revolutionary for me because I, you normally play longer sets, eight hours. So now I can really prepare my set you know, in advance in the computer and get every thing ready in my books, but still be able to be on the fly, play some odd cd or a guy that comes in with a usb stick with a track he's just finished.

You can prepare your deejay set, your whole box and everything on your laptop in your hotel room, and on the airport.

And guys, I seriously can't wait to start playing with these new Pioneer things.

If you speek and write good English, just do it in English, an do not use google translator, to translate from your language (or English) to our (Dutch) language, because the translation is a complete disaster. Not to understand for us, wrong translated words etc... The most of the members here speek and understand English, and can answer also in English.?Cool

On most forums I frequently participate, it is generally considered "rude" to post in a language other than the board's "official" one and this is why I chose to do it. I hadn't realised that the outcome would be so bad since it works pretty well the other way round... or at least that's what I think; for the most part I've been able to follow the discussion. Please accept my sincerest apology.

I think it was very thoughtful of you to translate your posts for us, and I appreciate it. But it's no problem whatsoever to speak English Cool

NO probs to write english. If people don't follow along they can speak in dutch if they want Winking my eye

The video has to wait a bit, indead for marketing strategy, they want to focus to be on the reveiling. Gives me a bit more time (holiday), in fact I don't have the time to make a video. You'll have to settle with the DJ Topics for a short while Winking my eye

Misschien heeft iemand ze wel op een idee gebracht Cool

UTU, you realy don't have to apology to us, we know that you respect our language, that's why (i think) you wanna translate your posts. Our language is only a small language, that's why we have to learn other languages.

Ik vraag me af of pioneer ook met een upgrade voor hun software pakket uitkomt voor de gelegenheid....

The first (and, I believe, the oldest) picture is quite interesting. I've taken it through "CSI-level image enhancement", and brought the darkened parts into view. As you can see, there is a USB-connection (and below that a couple of buttons whose function can only be guessed).

What actually makes this picture interesting is the fact that it appears not to be a photo manipulation in the strictest sense of the word. Instead, it looks like it is a rendered 3D model that was started with a model of DVJ. Granted, a person handy with 3D modelling software can do something like this pretty quicly - and the results are quite a lot better than are easily achievable by photo manipulation. I seem to recall that when this surfaced (that was a year, maybe two ago?) it was rumoured that the author was a professional 3D modeller. But that was never confirmed.

Also, I'd like to point out that "elokuu" means "august" in finnish Happy, laughing
Alert : Please make your pictures max 600 pixel width (or a little more) to avoid the red line around it. this means: the image needs to be resized !

It's a very good photoshop, but doesn't match with the picture Pioneer has provided (see Lawrenz's filtered version of the pio add poster)...
UTU    posted on 21-08-2009 02:56
Yep, it definetly doesn't match with the "new species" advert. The picture has been in circulation for quite a while (it surfaced about the same time as CDJ-400 was introduced) and at the time, I think it was a pretty safe assumption on what Pioneer might be making next for their high end product. "Safe" in the context that I don't believe Pioneer will stray far from what has been tried and tested...

This was basically what I meant with my earlier comment concerning DMP-555. They added quite a lot of "never before seen" features (and apparently threw their own layout design guidelines to the trashcan in the process) into that one and managed only to introduce an overpriced underachieveing product. Notably it also became their shortest ever surviving product in the DJ line (being in production for less than three years). I strongly believe that they don't want to do that mistake again.
Camino    posted on 21-08-2009 03:00
Of course, and thats the whole allure to pioneer players and why the DMP-555 flopped i believe, pioneer doesn't come as feature-loaded as many other brands, but each and every feature it does have is well thought out and intuitive to use...
UTU    posted on 21-08-2009 03:23
Can't help but love Pioneer for that. I still remember some Denon players back in the days where in order to change from "single track" to "continuous" mode, you had to stand on one foot, face the player in 30 degree angle and press two buttons simultaneously. And when they finally got to "one button does one thing", they still didn't understand that the player should be simple and not filled with a googolplex of buttons (most of which will be used once a year). Others have their strong points, but generally in user interface design Pioneer leads by a stadions length.
