Problem In Volume Level In Mixer!

   

Hello!
I just bought a brand new JAYTEC - DJM-7 mixer and I faced a problem with the volume level on the ouput icon on the top of the mixer! I am playing in both cdjs that I ahve connected with it the same cd burned in the pc at exactly the same bitrate etc...

but the volume level always plays above the 0 level it goes to +3..+6 etc. and the sound indicated red comes out from the stereo distorted! I tried to decrease the gain in both channels but eventhough the gain is set to zero sound comes still out! I set the master to zero...the gain to zero and the channel volume to zero even the crossfader set to the left channel when the right one was playing and still the ouput is red!

I need a bit of a help here! The equipment is brand new! I misse something...

did you connect the cd-players with the 'line-connectors'?

Yes I have done it! It's not the first time that I connect cdjs! I tried to check the problem with another mixer and the mixer was working just fine with the same cdjs but because it is quite old mixer I want to use this new one it has better sound quality! I am very frustrated with this..It is brand new...I just opened the box that it was in!

and i think the problem is your line-phono switch! line is for CD players and stuff and phono is for turntables, because they need a pre-amp. if you put a CD player, wich DOESN'T need a pre-amp, in a channel wich is swtiched to phono your noise level will increase to very high levels!! the switch is either on the back of your mixer or on top of it, usualy just above your gain control.

Hello tom-j, unfortunately wasn't the Phono/Line Input: I will describe you right away just a scenario what is happening and from your experience tell me if I have to return the mixer.This is the scenario:
Ok well I made some tests and the results are!
For Example in Channel 3 (the right one): The gain pan set to zero (=0), and the volume switch for this channel midway to the top and sound comes normally out with no red indicator on sound level...the crossfader till now has no problem...if I push it to the left to Channel 2 (left side) the sound decreases. However, I still have problem with the gain pans...eventhough the rest switches/etc.. working fine the gain pans the only that can do is to increase the sound from a certain amount to the red/distorted sound output! When they are to zero still sound comes out and I have to lower the channel switch and if I want to have no sound in each of the both channels.
To be more specific:
Sound level from 0-10 set to 3 and gain pan from 0-10 set to zero for the same channel and I still have sound coming output!
I think this is not proper working! The CUE switches set Off! I though the Gain Pans vanish Completely the sound
P.S. The CUE switches I am not yet sure what are they doing...with my old mixer I had only PFL buttons...a bit of a help here!

Oh that's the case... Yes that happens. While the gain-potmeter is totally turn down, you can still hear sound from that channel if the total volume is quite up. To totally silent a channel use the channelfader on your mixer or stop-button on cd-player.
