A new server in US... hm, in USA they rent out data-time to other continents so they use their bandwith during the whole 24h, most of the USA servers are not so fast throughout the day.
For a big site like yours you might consider setting up a secondairy server in another part of the world, if you aim for users from around the world.
Speed al depands on the location the user is on the globe. For example I've pinged these 3 websites with the following timing :
mydjspace.com (usa) 152ms
pioneer.com.au (oz) 330ms
djresource.eu (nl) 9ms
pioneer.nl (nl) 12ms
When you do the same you might see some differences due to data travel distance.
I'm wondering the speed of DJResource in you country, you probably see about the opposite. Pioneer Au might be the fastest, followed by mydjspace.com and djresource.eu as last.

slow website....specially the images.... |
That's only the first time an image shows up, the second time you'll get it from the Cache.
