Hello all...... my name is Peter and I am a 34 year old "young" man from Holland. Back in the old days I have done lots of music making with my good old C64, Amiga 500 and later on the pc.
Begin this year i started by mixing with the Numark total control but I soon found out that had a lot of limitations and just did not work so well compared to a nice cdj set + mixer. A few months ago I bought a complete secondhand set: 2 CDJ 800 mk2's and a DJM-400.

On that set i learned to master the beatmatching... although i still need to improve on that still.... sometimes i think wow..... that was great work and the other time just go.. what the hell was i thinking there Smile having funAnyway.... i really missed the fact that i could not plug in my usb stckcs or my Ipod. Also I sometimes wished I had more then 2 channels. To put in some nice background noises, samples etc. Those were the main reasons for me to sell the set (so nice Pioneer keeps it's value second hand) and since today I am the proud owner of 2 cdj-400's and a djm-800 mixer....... man I think I will walk around with this big smile on my face for a long time....... what a great piece of hardware to have...

.Anyway.... beatmatching is one thing, also playing around a bit with the bass before fading in another track. But now I am eager to really learn how to mix in songs..... how to filter high, mid, low, perhaps use the sound color fx or another effect.....  etcI am going to read all I can in this forum because I think it will have lots of valuable information for me as a starting dj.See you soon in another post...Greetz from Holland...... Peter --> ehh I mean DJ 3CYCLiC Cool

Hey 3Cyclic,

Welcome to the DJResource. Good to have you here...

But what's that, you've been making music for C=64... what handle did you use and what group where you in... Perhaps we've met before Winking my eye

W.i.M and I have also been in the C=64 scene...
Let the BASS be louder

Ah... we've been in House Designs... Never went to Oosterhout, always went to the Venlo/Blerick meetings

We've done a lot of demo's with FLI movements and Hi-Res scrollers.... but that was a long time ago... Still have 2 C=64 machines stored on my attic... I should get them downstairs again some day Happy, laughing

[edit] The handle I used was : Lead :D
I've always used the same name, for C=64 and for DJ-ing (and internet handle)...

Man i had to make a post here..... I had so much DJ fun this evening.... but I am alone here with my headphone on.... just had to share this.....

I am a starting nooby DJ..... i dont mind saying that because it is true.. and yes.... I have a superset for someone who never mixed before but hey.... I am 34 years old.. have a good job and can afford it....... anyway I am sitting in front of these 3 super machines with all those blinking lights..... just waiting to be pressed....... last evening I was busy listening to mp3's and trying to get some sort of set together........

And this evening it was gonna happen... I was going to try to mix something on the fly..... just record the shit and see what it would bring me..... best is to listen to your screw ups and learn from them....... but one song became two and two songs became three and for me listening to it through the headset.... well i just couldnt believe what I was hearing..... there great songs followed each other up so nicely...... I listened to the next track.. looked quickly back how much time I had left...... searched the right BMP and whoooootttt.... in goes the next track........ I was king of the dancefloor well....... sipping my beer and listening to the tracks I imagined myself being that.........

Hey another track ready........ cuepoint saved for nex time........ 2 minutes left and counting.... listen to the beat.... wait for the whole note...... start the next track...... not completely good in beat.. slight adjustment while fading in........ ohh man... is it working.. yes YES!!!!! it's in beat........ ok switch the bases... little more middle's... fade fade slowly...... ok we are on the next track....... wooooooooot!!!!

Hey damn there is a little hickup in the mp3.. I need to download a new one..... ohh ehh back to business...... I need a new track...... how much time left....... oops 1.30 minutes.... I will have little time for the BMP check.... well I will give it a try.......... mmmm.... think this is it....... perhaps I will have to adjust a bit........ ok 30 second.......... this tracks keeps running with a bass till the end... thank god CoolOK here we go..... man this a perfect pass to the next song........ (now I started to feel too much DJ power..... and misjudged my beginners luck!!!! hahahaha)OK next song...... yep this one...... this will be easy..... ohh yea.. it runs smoothly...... and I still have 3 minutes... man this mixing is easy.......... let's enjoy the track a bit....... I have all the time in the world..... Ok getting to 1.30 minutes...... focus....... press cue in beat to practise the real one a bit....... ok here we go...... mmmmmmmm...... I thought I checked that BMP...... why does this sound all wrong... my new track is a bit in front... it must be! Let's turn it back........ AARRGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!! I was wrong.... it was behind allready........ damn i fucked up ! Happy, laughing Let's play a bit with the faders....... damn this try was so good.... well........ I dont mind.... this is such great fun.... if I can do this after a few days.... I am ok.... Wanna "listen" to this story instead of reading it.... here is the mix itself... and allthough it goes completely wrong in the end..... I am so happy...... just wanted to tell you all.... I guess most of you have been on this point too back in the days or if you just started... just a while ago......... it's the moment when you really discover what you can do with great songs.... how you take people away from the daily life... and for a moment feel like in another world where everything is just perfect... floating on beats..... everyone is happy.........Ok back to reality..... I will have to make a new set... need more practise.... I can do this better the next time....... and listening the mix back while I am typing this.... the first switch between songs wasnt totally spot on........ hehehehe the other ones untill the fuckup are not so bad I think.......

OK here it is  Cool DJ 3CiCliC in the house!!!!! hehehehe

http://www.pw4it.nl/dj/testmix7.rar

ps. Listening to my mix again........ I notice I am so busy with mixing the next song in that I dont have time to pay attention if the half faded out song still is in beat...... sometimes you can hear it run out of beat in the background..... need to work on that also Smile having fun
