Traktor costs the same amount of money as serato. One of the most big differents between those two is that Traktor hase twice as much points were its Cue's at. So it has twice the amounts of points as serato! (better for scratitching and beat mixing)!

Traktor Scratch (TS) is a more recent technology than Serato scratch live (SSL), TS became available aprox a year and a half after the release of SSL.  In that period evolution in sound technology has made a few leaps forward.

The core of a timecode system is basically the audio card you're using, since that's the one which will output your music.
As for the software, they have both similar functions (although TS had more options like recording, effects, full midi controll, ...)

According to the SSL specs chart (right here) SSL uses 16-bit / 44.1 kHz sample rate for it's audio where TS uses
16 or 24 bit / 44.1 , 48 or 96kHz sample rate!  As you can see SSL 'hight quality' settings are TS low end settings.

On high quality speaker systems you do hear a differance (also in latency if you ask me, TS is more accurate, but this could also be due to the timecode in TS being twice as sensitive as SSL)

if I were you, I would not doubt and buy a TS.

Perhaps a nice detail to add is that TS has an emergency mono mode if one of your 2 channels fail (broken needle, bad cable connection, ...) it continues playing!

If you buy Serato, you won't be disappointed
If you buy Traktor, you won't be disappointed
Both systems work as they should work, but it's a fact Traktor has better vinyls

But you won't hear any difference, I'm challenging you all to listen to the music in a club where a timecoded system is used and guess which of both they're using.

Giving the audience a good time is just how well you are as dj and not using Serato or Traktor

I think that an important detail is that just can play 2 tt's or cd players.
So if you want to mix with (e.g 3 cd players), you can't if you bought serato.

That would be the most important detail for me..

probably you won't notice a differance in a club, but I use my Audio 8DJ (= traktor scratch audio card) also for producing purposes with ableton and logic pro. better quality plus you have build in midi!

I once tested serato and it felt like - i'm used to traktor timecode vinyl's - there was more latency on your actions.

Don't get me wrong, i don't say serato isn't a good product, I just point out the differances and the advantages of traktor scratch.
Since both systems are aprox. priced in the same range you can get more functionality and quality for your money Happy, laughing

From what I've seen is serato mostly used bu hip-hop and R&B dj's, they seem to like the vertical waveform and beats displayed for scratching purposes.  I play club groove and I again prefer the TS waveform where you have a great overview of a track under the playing waveform.

finalscratch is a very old technology that dates before serato and works with a modified version of traktor dj studio 2.

In Traktor Scratch, if you use it in combination with traktor DJ studio you can play up till 4 separately controlled timecode tracks at once! (the advantage of having a soundcarc with 4 in's and 4 out's !)

But if u use 4 turntables you have to have 2 preamps or you can use 2 tt's and 2 cd's and than you don't need them.

thanks soo much everyone... sorry for my absense after startong this.. just been paid about 30 mins ago lol soo hopefully traktor sctrach on its way soon.. special thacks Gery for that in depth post and all your experiences, you seem very clue up, and this helped a few people see the difference.. since Traktor can be the same price as Serato and has small better differences I think I'll choose that. Thanks again everyone
