Terrible story!

So, I feel I have to share this terrible thing that happened to me last weekend.

I was playing a set in a large stadium in front of 7000+ people for a pride celebration. Halfway through my set, I'm in the middle of playing Eddie Thoneick's I Wanna Freak You when SUDDENLY the PA shuts down! I look down at the CDJ's and all that is playing is my headphones and small wedge monitors running off my booth output. The crowd seems disoriented then realizes something is wrong and looks to me as if I have any control over this matter. I turn the booth monitors as loud as I could to compensate, and after what seemed like forever (in reality a minute or so) the PA system came back alive and the crowd cheered!

For those of you familiar with such a large venue the DJ has nothing to do with the overall sound coming from the many speakers; there are a team of tech people running the sound and lighting. After my set, I spoke to the production manager and he appologized to me saying "I know it wasn't your fault, we could still see your levels coming in on our board. The amps tripped a main circuit breaker disconnecting the power completely."

For a world-class production company in a world-class venue which regularly hosts big name concerts I am apalled that such a thing could even happen...

I just thought I would share the most terrifying moment of my DJ career so far!

Any comments, or anyone else have a similar horror story?

You have to have very strong monitors to even try to compensate that, I think that it would not be a very compensating 2 little monitors in stead of a pa system for such a big placeCool

Unfortunalty these things do happen once in a while. Shame though that most people always blame the DJ. But I think you've solved it nicely with your monitor, then the crowd at least knows you've did all you could Winking my eye
Let the BASS be louder

Obviously they were completely inadequate, a pair of 12" wedges in a stadium BUT I kept playing my set and turning the monitors up let people know at least somewhat that I was doing my thing...

Happend to me 1 time at my own organized party. A complete power shutdown. Just a matter of get things going as soon as you can and play on like nothing happened. Cool Just a matter of bad luck man, nothing you can do about it.

this year even on defqon1 the sound was out... that like 11000 people on mainstage?

This things happens but most of the time the crowd are screaming and like this mistakes... When it goes back on the party is even better Happy, laughing

So i think of it look @ it from the bright side... allthrough its not fun for the dj
