Help a Noob Buying Two CDs and a Mixer

   

Hey everyone!

I've been thinking about starting DJing 'seriously'. I've played on my friends pioneer and reloop stuff and at smaller clubs when my friends allowed me to do so, apart from fiddling at home with Virtual DJ.


Basicly I need gear for my home to practise on, and maybe use at smaller establishments in the future.


I've decided on CD-format and was thinking I should get Pioneer CDJ800mk2 or 1000mk3s. But are the CDJ1000s overkill or are they good to develop my skills with? I probably can't make use of the 0.02% accuracy for some time... what probably would be helpful for me is the wave display(?).

I also need a mixer, I've played a bit on DJM400 and reloops rmx 40DSP. However I was at first considering pioneer DJM 400, 600 or even 800(!), but then I heard Allen&Heath are better? Too pricy maybe? I play house/electro music btw so no battle/scratch mixers!


I don't need overly complicated and advanced gear but I want good quality and things I can have for a good while. So I'd rather not get Reloops etc (and I don't fancy a million effects, less is more)!


my budget is somewhere between 2000-4000USD, I'm going to import and use StepDown converters (yay for low dollar, 50% off..!). Not really sure yet !

looking to your budget you can buy almost everything. I suggest for you (noob) just a basic but very good, the djm400 and cdj400.

Or a DJM400 + CDJ800 set.
the 800 look more like the 1000's in clubs (if you want  to practise), and have a better jog etc.

2 pioneer cdj-800´s and a pioneer djm-600.

If you're not into effect, you can consider an A&H mixer, because the Pioneermixers got an effectsesion. A&H's have filters, something else then the standard effects. If you're not planning to buy more then 3 players/turntabels the xone 32 is fine. If you don't like the gains on the backsite you can also buy the xone 42. If you have to much money you could buy the 92, which is very hot:P

I can really advice you to get an 4 channel mixer, in the end, everyone needs more then 2 channels, because most dj's dont like to switch on one channel!

I think you should buy 2x CDJ800 and the DJM600

I would recommend 2 CDJ-800MK2. Because it has quick return, you can enjoy the jog more. You can back cue with this function on the jog and start the music by only touching and releasing the jog. Very handy when beatmatching.

The CDJ-1000 is not overkill with regard to features, in fact its really basic nowadays. Especially with modern op players with multi media connectivity and software controller functions. But the price tag is killing.

Mixer I would recommend the Xone 92. Not a lot effects, which sound annoying if you don't know how to use them like on the DJM-800. While the filters of the Xone are a welcome extension for the equaliser. But the DJM also has filters.

If your budget is that high I would recommend an Xone92/42 they have amazing filters! I use them al the time Also they have the best faders in the market (at my opinion).

Evo 5 for a noob? :P No way, thats way too much overkill. Like said and explained, go for the CDJ-800MK2. I recently worked with a DJM-800 which I liked very much so that would fit nice between those twho CDJ-800's. However, the XONE series appear to be very good also, so if I where you I would test both of them and see which mixer fits you the best. Same goes with CDplayers

En evo5 does have realy a lot of functions which you really need to figure out if you want to use that mixer, not to handy voor a starter. Nuo 5 would be a better choise, but the topic starter isn't really into the effects.

So many options, but you've convinced me to get a 4-channel mixer atleast ! I'll have to see if I can play around on someones Xone /Pioneer mixer and make a decision after that.

I was also wondering if the Pioneer HDJ-1000 headphones are recommended or do you prefer another brand like A&H, Sony, Koss etc?

Do I need to buy better quality cables (gold plated?) or are the ones included ok?

I wouldn't buy the Sony DJ headphone, because it is notorious for breaking. If you like the Pioneer HDJ-1000 it will be a good choice.

I was thinking of the cables between CD/mixer, Mixer/loudspeakers when I was asking about gold plated, not going to change the wires on my headphones hehe
