 Triames's DJ-Booth

I stick to the decks and the theremin, which goes on the mic input as it needs no eq (which is a good thing because my mixer has only 2 channels xD). I'll replace the Pioneer's CDJ100 for another 200 soon, because I need all the loops I can get because of the music and the way that I like to spin, and I'll replace the BST for a Korg Kaoss 402 mixer, because I need lots of noisy FX for the same reason. I'm working hard to get the damn Electribe to fix somehow in my sets (one more reason to buy the 402, because I'll need at least another channel).
I encourage everyone to add a theremin to their booths, it's not expensive (I got mine by nearly 50$, first hand, in eBay), it's quite cool and allows you to do improvise, enhance "slow" parts or just do the asshole while mixing, which is always a good thing to do.

I hope you liked it.

Thanks, Convert!

I don't know if I have the skill to explain what a theremin is in english, but I'll try:

It basically is a 1920's synthesizer which, instead of using keys to trigger the sound, uses magnetic fields: you move your hand or whatever near the antenna and it produces a unique, weird, sci-fi-like, pure synthesized sound. You play it without touching it, which is quite shocking the first times you see someone playing it.

I don't know if I'm allowed to put links here, so just type "youtube theremin" on google and hit the first one to make yourself an idea of how it sounds like.

"No1derland" is the brand of my theremin. Moog makes the good, expensive ones, which I couldn't afford in a thousand lives xD

I hope I've been of help despite my crappy english.

Hey I'm getting curious in some of your mixes. Can you post one on the forum here? Better would be a movie seeing you use that theremin. Cool booth, you have some unique stuff here and I think you also spin in different way then most of us do.

@ Thomassmith: the zebra-spiral colored box is the theremin, if you look close at it  you’ll see it has an antenna (the photo is quite blurry, sorry for that… )

@ Phenix & Boydgrift: the Korg’s Electribe is part groovebox, part sampler, part synth, you can add additional bass or drum or synth lines to a track you’re mixing in real time, or you can use it to create your own tracks or songs and perform them live, using it as another deck (kind of). It has shitloads of FXs, filters and stuff that you can fix nearly everywhere. Think of it as some kind of weird 909. Plus, it has two valves, which enhances the gain to inhuman levels.

@ Ashley: yep, I need another 200, the 100 is nice but it’s just not enough, since is has no loop function.

Thanks everybody for the comments!!! I’ll record something soon.

(And sorry again for my poor English :$)

It's not the usual setup, but it looks nice and i bet you can make a lot of amazing sounds and mixes with those things Winking my eye
Moog rules indeed, with some hard work and saving you might buy a little phaty for about €1000 second hand..

And your English isn't crappy, it's way better than the English of most people here on DJR :p
