Jan Liefhebber

Jan Liefhebber has been an important element of the Dutch techno scene since the early 90’s. In 1995 he set up the record label Highland Beatsto provide a platform for the acid and techno that he played in his DJ sets. Highland Beats went on to become one of the most successful techno labels of the 90’s and it provided a spring board for many upcoming artists. One of the first of its kind in the Netherlands, Highland Beats has inspired many labels and artists over the years. Jan’s DJ career started off in the underground techno scene. Together with some friends he organised parties in crazy industrial locations like old abandoned farm houses, fields, tunnels and warehouses. Jan’s musical taste differed from what most people were playing and he soon made a name for himself due to his musical diversity and refreshingly different sets. The popularity of Highland Beats fuelled his success and his firstinternational bookings soon followed. In 2003 Jan released his first co-production. This led to a storm of remix requests and he has since (co-)produced on many prolific labels. The main reason that Jan has remained a sought after DJ is that he doesn’t let any trend dictate what he plays while still evolving and progressing. After 40 releases on Highland Beats and several releases on sub labels HBLTD, Body: Art: Form and Klirfactor Jan decided to start up a new, fresh project to reflect the sound he is playing at the moment. 2008 saw the launch of Eterno Records, a joint project with partner Jenny Rose. Jan Liefhebber has performed in Austria, Belgium, Brasil, Croatia, Turkey, France, the UK, USA, Ireland, Italy, Slovenia, Germany, Malta, Japan, Spain, Switzerland, Poland and Russia at some of the world’s most prolific events. FACTS: Important Clubs: Doornroosje (Nijmegen-nl)),Rex Club (Paris-fr),Tresor (Berlin-ger),Pulp Mansion (Berlin-ger),Fusion Club (Munster-ger),House of God (Birmingham-uk)The Orbit (Leeds-uk),Marcus Garvey (Nottingham-uk),Tor3(Dusseldorf-ger),Butan Club(Wuppertal-ger),Fat Kat(bordeaux-fr),Le Nautilus(Bordeaux-fr),Le Laterie(Strassbourg-fr),Batafar(Paris-fr),Moog(Barcelona-ep),Havey Sick Zero(Tokyo-jp) and many many more...... Partys&Festivals: Defqon Festival(NL),Awakenings Festival(nl),Nature One(GER),Norderslag Festival(NL),Ruhr in Love Festival(GER),Millesime Festival(FR),Q-Base Festival(GER),Love Parade(GER),Giga Dance Festival(NL),Alcatraz Festiavl(NL),Teqnology(NL),Dance Valley Festival(NL),Ground Zero Festival(NL),Emporium Festival(NL),Big Sunflower Festival(AU),Techno for mates Festival(BR),Valkhof Affaire Festival(NL),Play(FR),Techno Festival(MT) ...and many more...

Hey, My dj hobby started in 1994, i was home alone and had nothing to do, so a friendasked if i'd like to go to the lokal youth centre,(he worked behind the bar) so i did. From themoment we arived, i went to the dj, and kepthim company every week for the first year..After that year the dj decided to stop, so ireplaced him. The equipment the youth centre hadwas realy old and they had regular cd players.I wanted to buy some equipment of my own.so i decided to buy a gemini 626 pro mixer, and a dubble cd player of soundlab (inc. pitch/ ceu)at that time i was very happy with that stuff.A few years later i bouht a jb systems turntable, andsomeone loaned me a SL 2000, (a hifi turntable with pitch)in that time i was listning to hardcore house most ofthe time, so every week i bouth some vinyl and i went tomy room to practice every freeminute.About 1998 the hardcore went back underground.Trance was really coming up, but i diden't like thestyle much..So from 1998 i diden't bouth new vinyl, and my hobbywas a little disappeard, sometimes i was playing cd's onmy room but that was all.Afther a while doing nothing, i heard the new soundof club music.. i liked it even more as the hardcore stylefrom 1998, so in 2002 my hobby was reborn, i boutha new sl 1210 mk2 and some vinyl to start, and i was ahappy dj again. About 2 years a go (end 2003/ begin 2004)i bouth a cmx 5000, and at the same time i got a offer tobecame a dj in a dance cafe, it's a allround style cafe. I played music for 5.5 year in the cafe but now i'm workingin a discotheek called Oscars and sometimes in a few dance cafe'sor Party's i like.Im still enjoying the dj life very much.. My own dj booth is rarely used but at the moment i have:Samson amp.    S 260koda speakers   MT33CDJ 800 (2x)                                        cd playerAllen & Heath xone 62 / Akiyama mc-x   mixerstanton 2000                                         headphonepioneer hdj 1000 / hdj 2000                   headphonethat's the story so far..gr. jw

Jay-Ve

The beginning:From the first moment that house music was introduced in the Netherlands he was sold to this kind of music! He bought many cd's and played them at home and on birthday party's!One day he thought, I want to be a DJ so I can share my music with people who have the same feeling for this kind of music. The years passed by and finally.......... The mid section:In 1997 he bought his first records, all sorts of house music, from Hard trance till Techno and Progressive together with his first DJ set.He practised for a couple of years and with some friends he played at a few party's in Holland and Belgium! After a few years he developed his own style, Future groove with electro influences and a twist of Techno. In 2005 he won the first Dj contest of the Dj Miss Monica Absolutly Stereo contest and after that he played at the big clubs in Rotterdam like Off Corso and Cruise Terminal ! The shining future:At the moment he is very busy in the studio to create his own style for future releases and he is still banging his way true out the country and beyond the boarders!
