This article is build up out of three different charts, each comparing another generation of Pioneer DJ CDJs. The differences in between the generations are to different to fit in a single chart there are 3 different charts in this article.
This is not a feature list, for all the features check each product in the Gearbase, links above each column.
The charts are shown starting with the latest models, followed by the previous generation.
The first Ultimate CDJ Comparison Chart was written al the way back in 2004 and compares all models of the CDJ-800 and CDJ-1000 series players by Pioneer DJ (Pioneer ProDJ back then).
First Generation CDJ Comparison Chart - 8 July 2004The second on years later and covers the lineup from CDJ-850 through CDJ-2000.
Second Generation CDJ Comparison Chart - 19 June 2010
With the CDJ-3000 a new generation of CDJs emerged so here is the chart with all the major differences between the last top end decks, in style of the previous CDJ Comparison Charts.
The are 3 models in the CDJ-2000 series: CDJ-2000, CDJ-2000nexus and CDJ-2000NXS2.
The Nexus naming is introduced in Pioneer DJs lineup with the CDJ-2000nexus, then still spelled in full. Nexus refers the a connection hub or center piece as this is what the ProDJ Link connection would end up to be. You can hook up all players to a link, including the mixer and 2 computer and they can all work from music spread out over all devices.

Around 2010 a new bread of CDJ's was around with the Pioneer CDJ-850, CDJ-900 and CDJ-2000. As these players have a different features set and are released 10 years after the original CDJ-1000 launched they deserve their own chart.
There is no hard line that determines the generations and I doubted to extend this chart with the later CDJ-2000NXS and NXS2, but think they would better placed in a new seperate chart that you might have read above.

The initial chart featured all CD players from the first generation of CDJs, starting with the CDJ-800 up to the CDJ-1000MK3.
The CDJ-1000 was introduced first and the CDJ-800 would follow withing a year. These decks would mark a turning point in many DJs lifes as it helped them making the switch from vinyl to CD.
The CDJ-1000 would get 2 upgrades within the model, the CDJ-800 only one. The models where launched relatively quickly after each other, each time bringing more refinement to the features. The Jog wheel of the CDJ-1000 series would get improved each version, thanks to constant development and feedback from the market.

Bigtime update, I've added the latest generation of CDJs in a new chart. including the CDJ-3000.
I've also restyled the complete topic, it still hold all the data it had but got a fresh look. It still had layout code from more than 15 years old that now if finally replaced
Jeetje, de CDJ-1000 alweer zo oud, ik begin me ineens een stuk ouder te voelen.
