OEM... beter in een aantal puntjes... en als je over resonantie begint moet je de Stanton variant maar nemen

Technics = niets mis mee... maar out-dated!

Technics of course , no doubt.

An example, when you get your technics out of the box it,s user ready.

Something you can,t say about the OEMS , they have to be undone of the(speling in dutch)space between the tone arm.

something like that is not really pro i guess, but hobby.

For example how can you make a decent scratch when the arm has a gap in wich it moves back and forth.

(by the way The oems do spin very nice , en you can mix a nice set on it, but earlies mentions are to cruel to be treu.

And then i have some experiences from the field that surely do right to the TECHNICS brand.

One time at the radio station where i play every now and then with friends , we discoverded that one of the technics decks had a little hum in it,s signal.

First we checked the groundwire etc etc.

Everything seemed to be oke, but the hum was still there.

after getting a bit frustrated we decided to open the machine.

What we found in there was something like Lake chocolate.

Somebody had thrown a cup of hot choclate with sugar in the turntable(probabely by accident, but didn,t tell the maintenance engineers.

It was a total wonder that the machine still did it,s work although it had a little hum.

We cleaned it thoroughly and it worked like it did all these years before.

we didn,t have to replace a piece .

It just STILL worked, ubelievable.

Second example:we used a lot agregators(dont no how to say it in english, probalely its EXTERNAL MOBILE POWERSUPPLY)when we gave illegal parties.

It,s a given fact that when you have  buttons and knobs, and everybody can acces them(because of the venue`s lay out of the illegal party), everybody WILL acces them.

It resulted in a fluctuating electricity level between probably 200 en 240 volt en even fluctuated in ampere.

The technics survived the fluctuations.

ElectricalFluctuations in the powersupply are know by there powers to destroy gear

It didn,t affect the technics at all Happy, laughing

And last summer(maybe the strongest story of all about the techs)me and a friend of mine where spinning outside .

We used a black and decker workmate with a wooden planchet to position 2 decks and a mixer.

But if you know what a workmate looks like , you,ll know that 2 decks and a mixer don,t fit on that workmate, so we used the planchet.

But by using the planchet we created an overhang of the 2 decks , so they had to be placed on the planchet both at the same time, otherwise one would fall of.
But when ballanced together it,s a rigid construction.

At the end of the night when the party was over ,one of the guys who helped us all night long ,had a little too much to drink en picked up one of the decks from the workmate.

You can imagine what happend to the other one and the mixer.

They where catapulted onto the ground from a hight of about 110cm.

They fel on solid street stones real hard,........you could really hear it,s pain when it hitted the ground....LOL

And you know what, it still plays every week , and is as rocksolid as it was a these years before.

Next year the machine has it,s birthday , 17 years old,........ we will celebrate by givin it a real chunky record to play.

May be it gets a litte kiss to, ......i love technics.

Its simply the best deck for dj,s ever, no argue for me about that !

If technics had made a more up-to-date model
with:

- more precise pitch
- no overshoot
- second stop/start button (for scratching style)
- maybe something like MT

then it would still BE the #1 TT on ALL sides..

but that would be if it was me in charge  Winking my eye
Rhino    posted on 05-04-2006 12:47
Pitch is very precise to me, it,s the only thing i use to make corrections, therefore i also have no trouble of overshoot, because i,ll never sweep the plate during mixing.
Only use the pitch fader to make corrections.

But again no doubt that the oems are very very nice players, but i just prefer the techs.

@ Rhino

i see you did a lot with your technics but this doesn't see why its better than the oems..... because you only can see that if you tride this with a oem you know witch one is better.

2 mamo: but from technics we know it survives the hardest conditions for sure!

And that helps people choosing i guess.

Also when you use google, and search for problems about the 2 decks you,ll hardly find problems with the MKII(and i mean MKII`s only), but you,ll find enough problems with oem players.

And i think that are real credits for technics, it say something about the build quality and their performance.

And fact is that they are known by all kinds of people who wont be surprised if they see a technics set in their booth where they have to play, but they will be surprised when they see oems for sure.

Most important , its the industry standard amongst turntables

Why MkII's onlyConfused
Rhino    posted on 05-04-2006 16:39
Because these are the decks i,m experienced with

i own MkII`s myself .
The followers of the MKII are a little different(probably just as good)
so i cant speak for them !(used them and all , but dont own them .

hey hey... english part of the forum here Winking my eye

So the conclusion i draw from the comments made at the top of the page:

If you intend to drop/sit on/pour beverages into/burn/use powertools on your decks - go for technics. Otherwise - OEM Winking my eye

oeps sorry,  didn't see that... when i made my reply
jordy    posted on 05-04-2006 23:52
if all disco's have technics and no oems... doesn't make a oem less good Winking my eye

people just are afraid to change... and there is no real reason why they should want to... "why change a winning team?"

but well... time will tell Winking my eye

well... i'd say the higher torque, more elaborate functions (such as different pitch ranges, reverse, and start/stop adjust) and especially drastic difference in price would suffice as incentive to switch to OEM... wouldn't you say?

jordy    posted on 06-04-2006 00:17
different pitch ranges won't be an isseu for most ppl..

reverse.. would be nice for some ppl... but not really nessesary for the most of us

torqeu can always be more Winking my eye

adn start stop would be nice indeed...

but price... well that mostly isn't a big isseu for most clubs/pro-dj's i geass?!
the cheaper the better always count's Happy, laughing

again: Nothing wrong witch technics... the OEM just has more possibility's...

technics is being lazy... would be nice if they made a MK3 Winking my eye shouldn't be so hard hehe
Camino    posted on 06-04-2006 00:24
i beleive they are currently at the mk5 already aren't they? but you're definitely right, there's no significant changes from model to model. to me it appears as if technics is just scared to lose its reputation by coming out with something innovative that the DJ world wouldn't like as much as their "good old" MKII's... The only real advantage technics has over OEM, as i see it, is that it has slightly less rumble...

jordy    posted on 06-04-2006 10:37
and where is the MK3 and MK4 Winking my eye

and rumble isn't an isseu @ all OEM's, well... then i mean the Stanton OEM wicht has more weight Winking my eye so... and that one asswell has MT on it (dunno the quility of that but still..)
