The original Technics SL-1200 was introduced somewhere in 1972 as an evolution to the popular SL-1100. It was the for Technics to show off with their innovation. The SL1200 was never designed or meant to be a DJ tool but more a middle class vinyl player.

It's stability cleared the road for the successor of this model wich was released in 1979.
